Clarion Hotel Aviapolis removes CO2
In the package you have just scanned, you are holding pure carbon, equal to 50 grams of CO2, or the emissions of 1 large cup of coffee, removed. The biochar you now have in your posession can be used in your garden, for your plants, lawn, or even your compost!
Biochar Carbon Removal
Down to Earth deliver carbon removal, based on biochar. Biochar is stabilized carbon from biomass. Each kilogram of biochar equals 3,1 kilogram of CO2 taken out of the atmosphere, and removed
Put very simply:
We take leftover biomass from forestry, and through high heat and no oxygen (pyrolisis), we remove the C from the O2 in CO2!
The result is a tangible and physical form of carbon removal, with verified and scientifically proven negative emissions, that you can hold in your hand.
And you know what?
Carbon in the form of biochar is stored irreversibly and permanently in soil. Because of its porous structure, it will contribute to climate adaptation, water and fertilizer holding capacity, and increased microbiological activity.
Therefore, one of the best thing you can do with the biochar you now have is to add it to your compost. It will speed up the composting process, and retain the fertilizing effect when added to soil. Feel free to also mix it to your normal fertilzer for your plants, vegetable garden, or even your lawn.
Some of the carbon removed through these conferences is stored at the roof top garden of our "sister hotel" Clarion The HUB, in Oslo. The rest is stored in agricultural soil in the Nordics.
Join Clarion Hotel Aviapolis on the journey towards 2030
By 2030, the world needs to be different. We need to eat, move, and live with less consequences to the environment around us.
At the Strawberry group, we have set the goal to have "Net Zero" effect on climate by that point.
Net Zero means that you cut what you can and remove the rest.
The Strawberry group are therefore working to cut 90% of the emissions of the entire hotel group, and remove the last 10% with carbon removal. The conference you are attending is an example of how a Strawberry hotel conference might feel in the future.
A Decade of Hospitality, A Future for the Planet
Ten years ago, Clarion Hotel Aviapolis opened its doors with a simple mission: to be the most welcoming home-away-from-home at the gateway to the world. As we celebrate our 10th Anniversary in 2026, we aren’t just looking back at a decade of memories—we are looking forward to the next decade of impact.
Our journey toward the "Meeting of the Future" truly accelerated in December 2024 with the launch of the Paris 2030 package. It was an ambitious experiment: how low could we push a carbon footprint? Through our partnership with Down To Earth, we turned the invisible visible, giving our guests a concrete representation of the carbon they saved.
In 2025, we evolved. By moving from buffet lunches to curated, table-served dining, we proved that high-end service and sustainable waste reduction go hand-in-hand. This success led us to a bold decision for our anniversary year: Why limit these standards to just one package?
For 2026, our gift to our guests and the planet is to integrate the Paris 2030 philosophy across our entire Meetings & Events functions. When you meet at Aviapolis during our 10th year, you aren't just booking a room; you are part of a 100% carbon-compensated experience, managed entirely within the hotel’s ecosystem.
